Earlobes

No piercing guns and no needles. We use fine tipped, sterile piercing studs or hoops which arrive pre packaged inside a single use and disposable cartridge.

NO! We only pierce with high quality, pre packaged and sterile piercing studs to ensure a safe, clean and hygienic service. You can change into yours in about 6 weeks (lobes), 12 weeks (cartilage).

If you want to know what it feels like to pierce your ear then do this: Put a thin, tiny rubber elastic hair band on your wrist, stretch  it about 4 inches from the inside of your wrist, then let it snap on your wrist-that is what it feels like to get your ears pierced. A quick sharp pinch that quickly dissipates.

Professional pierces would agree that Titanium is one of the safest materials for new ear piercings and sensitive ears. The next choice is 14k or 18k gold followed by stainless steel and then gold plated

Typically it is safe to change your starter earrings in about 6 weeks (lobes) and 12 weeks (cartilage). We prefer you wait a little longer, those are just the “initial healing” periods. It takes a good 6 months for earlobes to heal fully and 1 year for cartilage to fully heal.

TIPS: Avoid fashion/cheaper earrings until after the full healing periods.

Select small post styles and avoid dangles and infinity hoops until you reach reach the full healing periods.

When changing earrings lubricate the earring post with vaseline and spray the ear with aftercare spray so you earrings glide in without irritation.

Ear Lobes: For 6 weeks wear your piercing earrings on the loosest setting. Visually inspect the piercing daily to ensure there is adequate space around your earring on both sides and that the earring is never too tight.  Wash hands and then twice a day and after exercise/swimming, spray the front and back of the piercing with Neil Med aftercare, let the solution sit for 10 seconds then move the post back and forth once, let air dry or gently pat with a disposable paper towel.

Cartilage: For 12 weeks wear your piercing earrings on the loosest setting. Visually inspect the piercing daily to ensure there is adequate space around your earring on both sides and that the earring is never too tight.  Wash hands and then twice a day or after exercise/swimming, spray the front and back of the piercing with Neil Med aftercare, let the solution sit for 10 seconds- re position or adjustment only while it is wet/lubricated and then air dry or pat with disposable paper towel.

Piercing irritations are more common than infections. Tend to irritations and problems promptly to avoid infections. Try warm saline soaks to ease irritations. Mix 1/8tsp Sea Salt (non-iodized salt) and 1 cup of water, heat in microwave then soak ear directly or wad-up paper towels and dip in water for a heated compress, re-wet as it cools. The warmth and saline mixture will promote healing, soak for 3 to 5 minutes twice a day in addition to your regular cleaning routine.

Cartilage Piercings

At Just Your Ears Piercing and Styling Studio you must be 13 year old to get a cartilage piercing. We require a parent/legal guardian escort and you must provide student and parent ID.

It takes about one year to fully heal a cartilage piercing. You will need to clean and care for you cartilage piercings for 12 weeks for the initial healing period and before changing out your starter piercing studs. Cartilage heals best when clients avoid bumping, sleeping on, swimming and things that may irritate the piercing site-if not careful you may experience piercing bumps and keloids. Warm, saline salt soaks can help soothe sore ears and piercing irritations

Children's Piercings

We pierce infants everyday starting at 2 months old. We recommend waiting until they receive two tetanus shots just incase they encountered a piercing complication.

As a professional piercer I would say the best time to get a child pierced is between 6 months to 3 1/2 years or age 8 and over. Each age group has pros and cons but is ultimately up to the parent.

We recommend choosing titanium earrings for initial piercings for those with hypersensitivity issues. Titanium is nickel-free and non-allergenic. Some piercers believe titanium promotes faster healing because the body views it as an inert material.

After 6 weeks you can safely change your piercing studs as long as your ears are not tender or showing signs of problems. Choose quality earring materials, small size studs and avoid dangles, infinity hoops and costume earrings for 6 months.

The best earrings for initial piercings are properly sized and made of quality materials like titanium or gold. Your starter studs must not be too big and not too short in length for the clients unique lobe.

Titanium is excellent material for initial piercings because it is allergy free. Solid 14K & 18K gold are popular and most clients have no issues getting pierced with solid gold. We find that poor aftercare practices, irritating cleaning solutions and too short of earrings are the leading cause of problems. We recommend Neil Med aftercare piercing solution to best care for freshly pierced ears.
